The problem

Ward is complex enough that I was to add a pre flight layer outside of the container whose primary goal is help the user to adapt the container to their needs

As opposed to the pre flight that runs inside the container which is moreso about the agent getting setup to do the ward

Recursive invokes will be important here - eg the warded native agent being able to start ward a bunch of times to help the user get it running

Proposed change

  • I searched existing issues and this is not a duplicate.
  • This stays within ward's scope (the dev-verb gate / agent driver), not a personal-infra or downstream-repo verb.

WARD-RESERVATION: held 🔒

reservation details

Holder: container engineer-codex-ward-1125 on host KAI-DESKTOP-TOWER.

Reserved by ward agent --harness codex (reserved 2026-07-13T03:44:29Z). Concurrent ward agent runs are blocked until it finishes or the reservation goes stale (3h TTL). --override-reservation overrides.

Do not comment on or edit this issue to steer the run while it is reserved. The engineer seeded the body once at launch and never re-reads it, so a comment or edit reaches only human readers, never the running engineer. A correction goes to a new issue, dispatched fresh. That is the only channel that reaches a run in flight. Where the forge supports it, ward locks this conversation to make that a road-block rather than a convention (ward#494).

run seed context — what this run is carrying (ward#609)
  • Resolved: coilyco-flight-deck/ward#1125 · branch issue-1125 · harness codex · workflow pull-request-and-merge
  • Run: engineer-codex-ward-1125 · ward v0.633.0 · dispatched 2026-07-13T03:44:29Z
  • Comment thread: 0 included in the pre-flight read, 0 stripped (ward's own automated comments).

Static container doctrine and seed boilerplate are identical every run and omitted here (they ride ward v0.633.0).

WARD-OUTCOME: submitted

details

workflow: pull-request-and-merge; review summary: review gate intentionally skipped because temporary ward default pending brokered QA

The agent added a placeholder-adoption front-load pointer and a restart follow-up. The change felt small and direct. Confidence is high. Surprise: the repo hook also required a comment trim in cmd/ward/broker_exec.go.

Follow-up: the director can merge PR #1162 when ready.
