Context - otel-a2a-relay was retired and archived when it stopped being a planned component of LUCA and LUCA moved away from it. The relay and the agent-activity-to-OTel-span protocol are still fundamentally sound. The legibility substrate it provides, where every agent message and handoff becomes a queryable trace, is wanted again. It may not return in exactly its prior shape, but the core holds. The repo has been unarchived; this issue tracks bringing it back to active status.

Revival checklist

  • Unarchive the repo (done 2026-05-22).
  • Reconcile the LUCA coupling. luca-flow is currently the hero demo and a workspace member. Decide whether it stays canonical or is reframed as one example among others, now that LUCA no longer depends on the relay.
  • Re-add otel-a2a-relay to the catalog graph and the on-disk repo manifest so cross-repo tooling stops treating it as gone.
  • Refresh the repo baseline against the agentic-os standard: rulesets via apply-rulesets, pre-commit hook coverage, and the .coily/coily.yaml verb set. An archived repo drifts from the baseline.
  • Re-sweep docs/FEATURES.md and README.md for anything that went stale during the retirement.
  • Clarify the agent-channel relationship. The legacy /agent-channel/ endpoint predates the A2A relay surface. Decide how it maps onto or is replaced by the relay, and where coily channel fits.
