Kai binned all four recruiter drafts from the first pass. Three rails came out of the review, each caught on a real sentence rather than invented.

  • No rarity statements. which is rare, most people don't, unlike most recruiters flatter the reader by ranking them against people who are not in the conversation.
  • No announcing the answer before giving it. so here's a straight answer spends a sentence promising a tone the next sentence should just have.
  • Drafts go to a temp file, never into the account they would send from. Five replies went straight into Gmail drafts, so rejecting them cost Kai a cleanup pass through her own inbox instead of closing a file. A proposal parked on the thread it sends from is also one mis-click from going out. Matches the existing tooling-scout-* convention of routing candidate output to a scratch location.

Context: coilysiren/inbox#480.

Kai called this out on a recruiter draft that opened "Asking straight out
instead of pitching me is rare". The move flatters the reader by ranking
them against people who are not in the conversation, which reads as a
backhanded compliment rather than a warm one.

Catches the variants too, since "most people don't" and "unlike most
recruiters" are the same move wearing different words.

Second catch from the same recruiter draft, which opened "You asked
instead of pitching, so here's a straight answer". Promising a register
costs a sentence and delivers nothing the following sentence would not
have shown on its own.

Five recruiter replies went straight into Gmail drafts, Kai binned all of
them, and the rejection cost her a pass through her own inbox instead of
closing a file. A proposal parked on the thread it would send from is
also one mis-click from going out.

Matches the tooling-scout-* convention of routing candidate output to a
scratch location rather than its destination.
